How to Build Around a Core
Turn a two- or three-Pokemon idea into a complete team without duplicating weaknesses.
Why this matters
A core is useful when its members create turns for each other. It is not only a list of resistances.
A practical approach
Use this as a focused testing loop. The goal is to make one part of your decision process clearer before adding more complexity.
- Write down what the core beats and what forces it out.
- Add partners that improve bad board states, not only type coverage.
- Test at least one lead that does not include the core's main attacker.
Example to test
If Garchomp pressures damage while Rotom-Wash covers awkward board states, the next slot should solve a positioning problem rather than add another attacker.
